Article 130: The PROC-ASD project Kicks Off

We are happy to announce the official launch of PROC-ASD (PROmoting Coding careers for adults with ASD), a 24-month Erasmus+ Cooperation Partnership that promises to redefine inclusion in the digital labor market.

On the 26th and 27th of January, our Communication Officer, Elena Tsangaridi, joined our partners in Athens for the kick-off meeting hosted by Symplexis. This gathering marked the beginning of a collaborative journey to bridge the gap between neurodivergent talent and the ICT sector.

Across Europe, over 7 million people are on the autism spectrum, yet fewer than 10% are currently employed. This is a staggering statistic, especially considering that many adults with ASD possess the very traits such as high attention to detail, methodical pattern recognition, and logical thinking, that are the backbone of successful careers in coding and software development.

PROC-ASD isn’t just about training; it’s about systemic change. The project addresses the challenge from two critical angles:

  • The project will develop a specialized coding curriculum tailored to the unique learning styles of adult learners with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
  • The project will create an Adult Education framework that empowers ICT trainers to adapt their methodologies for neurodivergent students, ensuring an inclusive and supportive classroom environment.

Success in Erasmus+ relies on strong synergies, and we are proud to be part of a multidisciplinary consortium coming from 5 EU countries and 7 expert organizations:

  1. The Project Coordinator: NGO NEST BERLIN EV (Berlin)
  2. SYMPLEXIS (Greece)
  3. Social Enterprises (Spain)
  4. Autismo Córdoba (Spain)
  5. ΑΝΟΙΧΤΟΙ ΟΡΙΖΟΝΤΕΣ (Open Horizons) (Greece)
  6. INQUIRY FUSE (Cyprus)
  7. Asociatia Profesionala Neguvernamentala de Asistenta Sociala ASSOC (Romania)
