INQUIRY FUSE organised a successful international webinar, held on January 28th, 2026 as part of the UP-sTEAm project. The event brought together a diverse audience of 180 participants including educators, researchers, and students, all eager to explore the future of STEAM education.

The core focus of the webinar was to address a pressing question for the 21st century:

How can science education respond to today’s interconnected global challenges, from climate change and inequality to technological disruption, and help create more just and liveable futures?

The webinar was mainly based on the keynote presentation by Prof. Lucy Avraamidou (University of Groningen), President of the European Science Education Research Association (ESERA). Her insights provided a powerful framework for reimagining how we teach science today.

Some key highlights of the webinar were:

  • A critical reflection on reimagining the purpose of science education for social change and justice
  • Inspiring examples of research and curricular innovation at the intersection of science and the arts
  • A presentation of the Up-sTEAm digital toolkit, designed to support inclusive and engaging STEAM learning in and beyond the classroom.

We would like to thank Prof. Avraamidou and all the attendees for their active participation and insightful questions.
