The L-STEAM project officially launched with a dynamic kick-off meeting held in Malta last week, bringing together an enthusiastic consortium of educators, researchers, and practitioners from across Europe. Funded by the Erasmus+ programme, the project aims to enhance STEAM education by integrating performing arts into science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics learning environments.
Ahead of the formal planning sessions, the hosting team at the University of Malta organised a hands-on workshop with local teachers. This engaging session introduced innovative approaches for blending performing arts with STEAM subjects in primary and secondary school settings. The response from participants was overwhelmingly positive, with educators sharing thoughtful reflections and expressing keen interest in applying the ideas in their classrooms.
During the partner meeting, representatives from Greece, Portugal, and Cyprus discussed the project’s pedagogical framework, key milestones, and the rollout of upcoming activities. A highlight of the discussion was the planning of the L-STEAM Summer School for teachers, which will take place from 6–11 July 2025 in Marathon, Greece. This event will serve as an intensive learning and collaboration opportunity for educators interested in exploring interdisciplinary, arts-infused STEAM methodologies.
The L-STEAM consortium includes:
- University of Malta (Malta)
- Science View (Greece)
- NUCLIO – Núcleo Interativo de Astronomia e Inovação em Educação (Portugal)
- INQUIRIUM Ltd (Cyprus)
- Ellinogermaniki Agogi (Greece)
- Dasoupolis Primary School (Cyprus)
With a strong foundation now in place, the project is set to deliver inspiring, inclusive, and creative educational experiences that support both teacher development and student engagement in STEAM learning.
