Article 72: STEM Sports Education Project launches with inspiring Kick-Off Meeting in Nicosia

On 13–14 January 2025, INQUIRIUM had the pleasure of hosting the official kick-off meeting for the STEM Sports Education project in Nicosia, Cyprus. The meeting brought together all consortium partners for the first time, marking the beginning of a collaborative European effort to combine the fields of STEM and sport in secondary education.

The STEM Sports Education project aims to creatively bridge the gap between science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) and physical education. With a particular emphasis on engaging girls in STEM fields, the initiative will develop innovative resources that foster curiosity, active learning, and interdisciplinary thinking through sport-based approaches.

During the two-day meeting, partners introduced their organisations and discussed in detail the project’s objectives, timeline, and expected outcomes. Central themes included the co-creation of a pedagogical framework, the design of an interactive toolkit with learning activities, and the development of a comprehensive training programme for educators. Dissemination, communication, and sustainability strategies were also mapped out to maximise the project’s impact across Europe.

This inspiring collaboration brings together universities, schools, and sport-focused organisations from Belgium, Spain, Italy, and Cyprus. We are proud to be working alongside:

  • Vrije Universiteit Brussel (Belgium)
  • INQUIRIUM (Cyprus)
  • Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (Spain)
  • ASD Sport Compass (Italy)
  • Secondary Schools: KA Etterbeek (Belgium), Institut Bitàcola (Spain), and Gymnasio Latsion (Cyprus)

We look forward to bringing this dynamic project to life and supporting educators and students across Europe to explore STEM in motion.
