The STEM Sports Education project addresses the EU’s critical STEM skills shortage by combining STEM education with sports to foster essential competences while promoting physical activity and healthy lifestyles. This innovative, multidisciplinary approach integrates inquiry-based, problem-based, and design-based learning methods, creating real-life applications of STEM concepts through sports. Targeting secondary school students, with a special focus on encouraging girls to engage in STEM, the project aims to develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills in an inclusive and engaging environment.
The aim of the STEM Sports project is to enhance secondary school students’ STEM skills and competences with sports as real- life applications to teach those subjects, with a special emphasis to be given to girls.
The project’s main objectives (O) are:
O1: Make STEM Sports topics accessible to secondary school students, especially girls, and promote their increased participation in non-formal learning activities that combine the STEM and Sports subjects.
O2: Develop secondary school students’ STEM skills and competences through the context of Sports, developing at the same time core motor skills, spatial awareness etc.
O3: Raise awareness among teachers, educators, and trainers for the interplay between STEM and Sports and offer support to them on how to promote the development of STEM and Sports and competences for students, especially girls.
O4: Encourage sharing of experiences from all the partners across Europe to identify best practices for the incorporation of ideas related to STEM and Sports in non-formal learning contexts.
O5: Promote a multidisciplinary pedagogical approach at school education.
