The EQUAL project aims to combat gender inequality in sports by empowering girls aged 14–16 to stay engaged in basketball across five Mediterranean countries: Spain, Portugal, Turkey, Cyprus, and Croatia. Led by a diverse consortium, the project addresses the high dropout rate among teenage girls and the lack of female representation in coaching and leadership roles. Through tailored support, awareness campaigns, leadership training, and role model dialogues, EQUAL promotes continued participation and long-term involvement of young women in basketball, with the goal of creating a replicable model for other sports.
EQUAL aims to: 1. provide to 120 young females with the leadership skills needed to become coaches in the future, 2. provide to the 6 organisations of the consortium and a total of 60 workers and volunteers with strategies they could implement from their line of work to promote gender equality.
