The AIRY (Responsible use of AI and Intelligent Choices for youths) project is an 18-month Erasmus+ initiative designed to equip young people aged 16-30 with essential AI literacy. It focuses on fostering the responsible and ethical use of Artificial Intelligence in their personal and professional lives, and supporting youth workers in this area. The project consortium, comprising HUUB MTÜ (Estonia), SOTIROPOULOU ΚΑΙ SIA G.P. (Greece), and INQUIRY FUSE LTD (Cyprus), will undertake activities such as research into existing resources, conducting focus groups with youth, co-creating an interactive handbook on AI literacy, and developing recommendations for youth workers. AIRY aims to produce tangible outcomes like enhanced AI understanding among young people (especially from underrepresented groups), practical educational resources like the handbook and guidelines, and an increased capacity for youth organizations to promote ethical AI practices. Aligned with Erasmus+ priorities, AIRY supports digital transformation by boosting digital readiness and resilience, fosters inclusion and diversity by targeting disadvantaged youth, and enhances employability by equipping young people with vital AI-driven workforce skills.
The project’s main objectives (O) are:
O1. To develop youth’s key competences in AI literacy, focusing on the ethical implications, tackling misinformation, and responsibly using AI technologies for both personal and professional contexts, through the development of educational materials that can support youth organisations in delivering ethical AI training.
O2. To support youth workers and youth organisations for integrating AI literacy, responsible and ethical AI use into their programmes, ensuring youth are prepared for the challenges of an AI-driven society.
O3. To promote inclusivity by ensuring diverse participation from underrepresented groups, equipping all young people with the tools to thrive in a digital, AI-driven world. O4. To facilitate the dissemination and sustainability of AI literacy resources across youth organisations in the EU.
The partnership comprises a team of three partners from Estonia, Greece and Cyprus.
P1: HUUB MTÜ
P2: PLAN B
P3: INQUIRY FUSE (formerly known as INQUIRIUM)
The AIRY project primarily targets young people aged 16 to 30. Through educational materials, focus groups, and workshops, the project aspires to equip them with practical AI literacy skills, emphasising ethical practices to thrive in personal and professional contexts. Special focus is placed on underrepresented youth, particularly those from rural areas, disadvantaged socio-economic backgrounds, or with migrant or diverse racial/ethnic origins, bridging their access gap to AI education and ensuring digital inclusion.
Additionally, youth workers, staff and members of youth organisations, including also schools and HEIs, who are essential in exploiting the project’s results, form a secondary target group. They will benefit from tailored recommendations and guidelines that enhance their capacity to raise the awareness of youths about the ethical and responsible AI use. This will contribute to the project’s long-term sustainability, as youth organisations will be better equipped to support the development of responsible AI users within their communities. The project also targets an indirect target group within the youth sector, such as policymakers and youth researchers. These stakeholders play an active role in shaping and implementing policies that enhance digital literacy and build capacity among youth and youth workers.
