The STEAM4SUSTAIN project aspires to leverage STEAM education to address pressing socio-scientific issues, focusing on environmental sustainability. Interdisciplinary learning and training materials on topics like air pollution and biodiversity loss will be developed, applying various pedagogical approaches (e.g., inquiry-based learning, problem, project and challenge-based learning), to raise scientifically literate, environmentally conscious citizens—crucial for modern school education amid the global climate crisis.
The project objectives are:
O1. To develop primary school students’ key competences in understanding and addressing socio-scientific issues through the creation of innovative interdisciplinary learning materials, structured around critical environmental challenges.
O2. To produce a comprehensive teacher guidebook that enhances teachers’ competences to teach socio-scientific issues in real-classroom settings, through STEAM approaches.
O3. To establish partnerships between schools, environmental organisations, and local communities, facilitating experiential learning opportunities that deepen students’ understanding of environmental challenges.
O4. To promote inclusivity by engaging students from diverse backgrounds, with special emphasis on underrepresented groups and rural areas and girls’ participation in STEAM fields. O5. Facilitate the widespread dissemination and sustainability of resources and innovative pedagogical approaches to the wider EU community and internationally.
